Chairman TRAI Anil Kumar Lahoti elected as Chairman SATRC

Lahoti currently serves as the Vice Chair of South Asian Telecommunication Regulators' Council (SATRC) - a council that coordinates issues relating to regulations in telecommunication in South Asian countries.

Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), currently is the Vice Chairman of South Asian Telecommunication Regulators' Council (SATRC).

Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has unanimously been elected as the new Chairman of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators' Council (SATRC).

He currently is the Vice Chairman of the Council.

Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is the current chair of the SATRC.

TRAI announced the appointment of Lahoti while hosting the SATRC meeting. The 25th meeting of the SATRC is currently being held in New Delhi- from November 11–13.

The SATRC meeting is an annual event where heads of telecommunication regulatory bodies from SATRC member countries discuss and coordinate regulatory and other issues related to telecommunication and ICT. The meeting will include sessions for regulators, industry, and sharing regulatory experiences.

SATRC activities are conducted by involvement of the highest level representations by the regulatory bodies of the South Asian countries. At present, SATRC is consisted of nine South Asian countries.

The Council is composed of the Heads of the regulatory bodies of nine South Asian countries namely, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Affiliate members from these countries are also taking active participation in SATRC activities.

During the meeting on November 11, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Communications delivered a special address focusing on transformative goals and advancements in South Asia's telecom sector.

Mohiuddin Ahmed delivered an address highlighting key priorities for regionals telecom advancement. Meanwhile, Lahoti delivered the welcome address, underscoring India's commitment to advancing telecom collaboration.
