The 2022 Lions Creativity Report features 15 Indian creative professionals. The annual report ranks the most creative businesses and people in the world based on performance at Cannes Lions. 

The Lions Creativity Report presents four Regional Network of the year awards and 11 global awards: Creative Company, Network, Agency, Independent Agency, Creative Brand and Palme d’Or, as well as Health Network, Health Agency, Media Network, Agency by Track, and Independent Agency by Track of the Year. The creative rankings also include the top performing Director, Art Director, Creative Director and Copywriter.

Also included in the report are analysis and insights from the winning work and lessons on how brands are growing businesses and tackling some of the world’s most challenging problems in innovative ways. The themes covered include: Creativity for Growth; Scalable Solutions; Craft with a Conscience; Tech in Service to the Idea; and Invite Everybody.

Indian creatives dominate the Cannes Lions Creativity Report

In the 2022 edition of Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, India has managed to get a total of 121 shortlists. On day four of the ongoing festival, 14 Indian campaigns got shortlisted in the Film Lions and Sustainable Development Goals Lions categories.

Under the Film Lions category, Indian ad agencies scored a total of eight shortlists.

Enormous Brand’s campaign ‘Jaquar Bath &amp; Lights - Office’ got one shortlist.

DDB Mudra’s ‘Machine-Gun Mouth’ for Battlegrounds Mobile India bagged three shortlists.
ANIMAL’s film ‘Pure as love’ for Bhima Jewellery picked up a shortlist.
Byju’s ‘Masterji’ campaign too is a Lions contender.

The joint work of FCB India, Kinnect, and FCB Chicago ‘Chatpat’ for SOS Children’s Villages India has two shortlists in Film Lions.

Cannes Lions 2022: 14 shortlists for Indian agencies on Day 4

Indian agencies won three Lions on Day 2 of the ongoing Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Dentsu Webchutney picked up a Gold Lion for VICE World News’ 'The Unfiltered History Tour' campaign in the Digital Craft category.

Byju's got a Silver for its 'Masterji' campaign in Entertainment Lions and DDB Mudra won a Silver Lion too. The agency won the metal in the Industry Craft category for 'A Silent Frown' campaign for the Charlie Chaplin Foundation.

On Day 3, India agencies have added a total of 50 shortlists to the kitty. Here are the campaigns that are competing for Lions across Direct, Creative Data, Media, PR, Social &amp; Influencer categories:

McCann India received one shortlist in this category. The agency bagged it for Ujjivan Small Finance Bank’s Shagun Ka Lifafa campaign.

Media Lions


India has a total of 12 shortlists in Media Lions.

FCB India and FCB Chicago picked up six shortlists - three for The Times Of India's ‘Nominate me Selfie’ campaign; and three for SOS Children’s Village India’s campaign ‘Chatpat’. This campaign was done in collaboration with the network’s digital agency Kinnect.

Ogilvy India also got three shortlists in Media Lions. Two for Cadbury Perk’s ‘Perk Disclaimer’ campaign, and one for Cadbury Celebrations’ ‘Shahrukh Khan - My Ad’ campaign.

BBDO India received two shortlists. One each for P&amp;G’s ‘Name Change Pack #ShareTheLoad’ and ‘See Equal #ShareTheLoad’ campaigns.

Mindshare got shortlisted for Sunlight Detergent's ‘Bring Colors Back in the Lives of the Weavers’ campaign.

50 shortlists for India on Day 3 at Cannes Lions

India’s report card at the ongoing Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity looks solid and promising. On Day 2 at the ongoing Oscars of advertising, shortlists for Mobile Lions, Brand Experience &amp; Activation Lions, Creative Business Transformation Lions, and Creative Commerce Lions were announced. India has managed to add 20 more shortlists to its kitty, taking the total shortlist tally for India to 57.

In Mobile Lions, Dentsu Webchutney’s ‘The Unfiltered Tour’ for Vice Media made three shortlists. On Day 1, the campaign won the Grand Prix award in the Radio and Audio Lions. It is so far India’s most shortlisted campaign at Cannes Lions this year.

Ogilvy India’s ‘Nothingcoin’ for Cadbury 5 Star also got one shortlist in Mobile Lions.

DDB Mudra’s ‘Stayfree Project Free Period’ campaign for Johnson &amp; Johnson’s bagged the only Creative Effectiveness shortlist for India.
Indian agencies managed to pick up a total of 10 shortlists in the Brand Experience &amp; Activation category. Ogilvy India got shortlisted for ‘Shah Rukh Khan - My Ad’ in two sub-categories. Dentsu Creative India again secured three shortlists for Vice Media’s ‘The Unfiltered Tour’.

FCB India along with FCB Chicago grabbed three shortlists for the campaign ‘The Nominate Me Selfie’ for The Times of India. VMLY&amp;R has also been shortlisted for Unipads’ ‘Adeli’ campaign. The agency’s commerce unit added a shortlist for Unilever’s ‘Smart Fill’ to its Cannes cart.

In the Creative Business Transformation Lions, VMLY&amp;R Commerce got one shortlist for its Unilever’s ‘Smart Fill’ campaign. The campaign has three in the Creative Commerce category. McCann India received one shortlist in Creative Commerce Lions too. The agency bagged it for Ujjivan Small Finance Bank’s Shagun Ka Lifafa campaign.

No Indian entries qualified in Creative Strategy Lions.

Cannes Lions 2022: Indian creatives shortlisted for 20 more Lions on Day 2

In the 2022 edition of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Dentsu Webchutney won a Grand Prix in Radio &amp; Audio Lions for its ‘The Unfiltered Tour’ campaign for Vice Media. The campaign, which is the most shortlisted Indian entry (so far), also picked up two Bronze Lions and one Silver Lion too in the same category.

In a behind-the-scenes blog for Storyboard18, Dentsu Webchutney’s former CEO Gautam Reghunath had described ‘The Unfiltered Tour’ as a “project of serious rigour and ambition”.

The key members who worked on the campaign made multiple secret visits to the museum, and spent over 18 months to put together the campaign. Under the campaign, VICE World News and Dentsu Webchutney launched a new guided tour for visitors at the British Museum in London. Interestingly, the museum has nothing to do with the campaign directly. British Museum is home to some of the world’s most disputed artefacts. Through ‘The Unfiltered Tour’, visitors to the museum could scan these artefacts using the Instagram filters and unlock an augmented reality (AR) experience that visually teleported the objects back to their homeland.

It’s for the first time that visitors to the museum were able to hear the story behind each artefact in the voices of experts from the countries they were taken from and not from where it’s currently housed. A moment of guerrilla genius that gave each of them an opportunity to play ‘audio tour guide’ right under the museum’s nose, said Reghunath. Taking this further, ‘The Unfiltered History Tour’ also extends into a ten-part podcast series featuring these experts, providing a broader education on the artefacts, as well as the history and ongoing impact of colonialism.

The other campaign that picked a Grand Prix is VMLY&amp;R's 'The Killer Pack' campaign for Maxx Flash in the Health &amp; Wellness Lions. In India, garbage collection points act as major breeding grounds for diseases like dengue and malaria, while mosquito repellent coils are only used to fight mosquitoes inside homes, Maxx Flash decided to change that practice. The mosquito repellent brand introduced The Killer Pack, a 100% biodegradable, innovative packaging lined with 5% Active Probiotic Bacillus thuringiensis, which kills mosquito larvae when disposed of in garbage dumps, dustbins, and stagnant water, helping to break the vicious cycle.

Dentsu Webchutney, VMLY&R India win Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2022

It’s a solid start for Indian agencies at the 2022 edition of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. India has managed to get a total of 17 shortlists across categories like Glass, Titanium, Innovation, Health and Wellness Lions, Radio, and Audio. As the offline edition of the festival kicked off today, Indian agencies added 20 more shortlists to take its tally to 37. This year Indian agencies and brands sent a total of 921 entries to Cannes Lions.

Dentsu Webchutney picked four shortlists in Digital Craft Lions. The agency’s work 'The Unfiltered History Tour' for Vice Media is India’s top shortlisted work, so far. A total of 82 entries are competing in this category.

India picked a total of eight shortlists in Film Craft Lions. Edtech giant Byju's received two shortlists for its 'MasterJi' campaign. Offroad Films got three shortlists in this category for Whisper's 'The Missing Chapter'. Leo Burnett India is the agency behind the campaign.

Early Man Film has a shortlist for 'Machine-Gun Mouth' for Battlegrounds Mobile India. DDB Mudra has conceptualised the campaign. Memesys Culture Lab's work 'Care Lives on #TouchOfCare' for Vicks India has two of them. Publicis India is the creative agency of the campaign. 165 entries have made it to the final round.

Six Indian entries are shortlisted in Design Lions. Landor &amp; Fitch India has got two shortlists for its 'Polly the Polar Bear' for Montessori Schools India. Leo Burnett India also got two shortlists for P&amp;G Whisper's 'The Missing Chapter'. DDB Mudra's 'A Silent Frown' for Charlie Chaplin Foundation picked a shortlist in this category. FCB India's work 'Unbox Me UNAIDS' for UNAIDS is also shortlisted.

Byju's is the only Indian company that got shortlisted in Entertainment Lions for its 'Masterji' campaign. DDB Mudra gave India its only Industry Craft Lions shortlist for its entry titled 'A Silent Frown' for the Charlie Chaplin Foundation.

No Indian work made the cut in Entertainment Lions for Sport and Entertainment Lions for Music shortlists.
