Matter of great pride: MIB’s Ashwini Vaishnaw on Mithun’s Dada Saheb Phalke award

Legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2022, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced today. Union Minister Shri Ashwini Yadav shared the news, acknowledging Chakraborty's remarkable contribution to Indian cinema over the years.

In his statement, Shri Vaishnaw expressed immense pride in honouring the veteran actor, whose work has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema and influenced generations of audiences and performers alike. "It’s a matter of great pride that Mithun Da is being awarded Dada Saheb Phalke award. His entire life is a story of struggles and achievements. His contribution to India cinema as well as public life is immense. I congratulate Mithun Da," expressed Shri Vaishnaw. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, comprising esteemed members such as Ms. Asha Parekh, Ms. Khushbu Sundar, and Mr. Vipul Amrutlal Shah, selected Chakraborty for this accolade.

Known for his versatile performances and charismatic screen presence, Mithun Chakraborty is one of the most cherished figures in the Indian film industry. The award, considered one of the highest recognitions in Indian cinema, will be presented during the 70th National film Awards ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Beyond his artistic prowess, Chakraborty is also recognized for his compassion and dedication to social causes, further solidifying his enduring legacy in the hearts of millions.
