Pralhad Joshi takes charge of Union Food and Consumer Affairs Ministry

Senior BJP leader from Karnataka Pralhad Joshi said his priority would be to further strengthen the food security system.

Under PM Narendra Modi’s third term, the BJP leader from Karnataka- Pralhad Joshi has taken charge of the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, replacing senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal.

Additionally, he is appointed as the Minister of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Speaking with the media, Joshi said the Ministry has a mandate to implement the world’s largest food security scheme. He also noted that his priority would be to implement the 100-day agenda of the government and further strengthen the food security system. He said the system is already in place for procurement and distribution of foodgrains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and his efforts would be to strengthen it.

Joshi started his political journey with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP, and has held various key positions, including the President of the Karnataka BJP.

In the second term under PM Modi, Joshi was leading the coal ministry which has now been given to Kishan Reddy.
