Multiple citizen groups have raised their objection regarding the clutter on the Western Express Highway in Mumbai. The busy junctions from Dadar to Andheri are flooded with Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) billboards. Mumbai traffic police have already stopped issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) until Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) implements its hoarding policy.


The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) considered the wealthiest civic body in India, says that Mumbai, the country's financial hub, has only 1,025 legally authorized hoardings throughout the city. The BMC generates a substantial revenue of approximately Rs 100 crore from the licensing fees associated with these hoardings.

Quick commerce remained a hot sector of investment during Q4 of 2024: KPMG


VC investment was quite muted in India during Q4’24, despite relatively strong market activity. Between Q3’24 and Q4’24, India saw a decline from $3.7 billion to $2.6 billion in VC investment, as per a report by KPMG.

MIB introduces key amendments to the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994

On January 17, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notification amending the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994 (the Rules), to streamline the Local Cable Operator (LCO) registration process. Effective from Jan 17, LCO registrations will be conducted entirely online with the Ministry itself as their registering authority.

Upon successful verification of applicant details, including Aadhaar, PAN, CIN, DIN etc., LCO registration certificates will be issued in real-time. Also, a provision for appeal against the denial of registration or renewal for LCO registration has been added.

The first such event of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is set to be held between last week of April and first week of May. WAVES, which focuses on four key pillars - Broadcasting & Infotainment, Digital Media & Innovation, AVGC-XR, and Films, is likely to be moved to Mumbai.


When MIB had announced its maiden event- the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), the initiative was widely applauded by the industry. According to sources, multiple federations involved in organizing WAVES have also been informed about the development.

Prasar Bharati's DD Free Dish MPEG-2 slot auction to start from Feb 10


Prasar Bharati has announced the dates of MPEG-2 e-auction slots for DD Free Dish. The pubcaster will accept filings from broadcasters till 4 February and the auction will be conducted on 10 February. Additionally, the auction date for MPEG-4 slots meant for HD channels is likely to be announced soon.


Storyboard18 had first reported about Prasar Bharati's revised e-auction policy for DD Free Dish slots. Now High Definition (HD) channels can participate in the bidding process. The reserve price for e-auction of MPEG-4 slots for private HD channels is Rs 80 Lakhs with second slot at increment of Rs 1 Lakh for second slot. Slots for MPEG-4 will be equivalent to 40 SD as compared to 11-12 slots earlier.

Nestle names Rajat Kumar Jain country manager for Singapore

Global foods major has named Indian executive Rajat Kumar Jain as country manager for Singapore. In August last year during a leadership rejig, Nestle India had announced that Jain, who was the foods business head, also leading MAGGI in South Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka), was to get a significant leadership role within the Nestle Group.


Jain has a career of almost two decades in brand building, innovation, sales, leadership and digital transformation. He has helped build Maggi, one of the world’s most chosen FMCG brand and one of India’s most loved. He joined Nestle India as a management trainee in 2004.

Radio players' conservative bid in third batch of phase-III FM e-auctions


The third batch of phase-III FM e-auctions hasn't found many enthusiastic participants because of high reserve prices and the 9-year long hiatus. Many radio players will likely limit spending to 10% of previous levels.


The absence of major players also comes after radio channels reportedly requested a nearly 70% reduction in the reserve price in the auction – mainly because the third batch is set for the cities with less business opportunity and a high cost of operations.

Flipkart, Amazon led e-com consumer complaints in FY24: Consumer Affairs Ministry


Out of the total grievances (4.4 lakh) registered with the Ministry in fiscal 2024, Flipkart led with 1.6 lakh followed by Amazon and Meesho. Swiggy topped with 9,527 grievances among food delivery platforms followed by Zomato.

Crackdown on content: 18 OTTs blocked in 2024 for obscene, vulgar and pornographic content

Govt intensifies surveillance on Chinese companies masquerading as RMG operators


The Ministry of Home Affairs is actively monitoring illegal Chinese gambling companies that are disguised as legitimate Real Money Gaming (RMG) companies in India. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has been rigorously banning these Chinese apps and websites, but they continue to resurface under new identities.


These Chinese apps and websites have become hubs for money laundering in the country, posing a potential threat to national security and contributing to gambling addiction among citizens. In September 2024, an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) uncovered a ₹400-crore fraud involving Chinese nationals.

Jayen Mehta, who leads Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), an apex body of milk cooperatives which markets dairy products under AMUL, as managing director, has been granted a five year extension to his current role.
