Tata Motors overtakes Maruti Suzuki to top YouGov's Auto Rankings 2023 in India

For the brand ranking, brands were ranked based on their ‘Index’ score. This metric uses an average across brand overall health, including general impression, satisfaction, quality, corporate reputation, value and recommendation.​

Tata Motors has dethroned Maruti Suzuki to become the best ranked brand in the YouGov Auto Rankings 2023 in India, with a score of 29.6 points.

YouGov BrandIndex measures the public’s perception of thousands of brands across the world daily basis. The brand rankings were compiled using Index scores, a measure of overall brand health calculated by taking the average perception of Impression, Quality, Value, Satisfaction, Recommend and Reputation over a period of 12 months.

Last year’s topper Maruti Suzuki and second-ranked Honda moved down one place each to second (25.6) and third (24.9), respectively.

German manufacturers featured heavily in the list, with BMW taking the fourth spot (22.3), Mercedes-Benz the sixth (20.0) and Audi the seventh place (19.3).

Leading Indian auto manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra moved up five places to come fifth (21.0) in the 2023 rankings.

Korean manufacturer Hyundai ranked eighth (19.2) while Toyota placed in ninth (17.3) in the India rankings- although the Japanese manufacturer did well across the globe making it the top ranked global brand in YouGov’s Auto rankings 2023.

Finally, Land Rover rounded off the top ten in India, with a score of 15.0.
