Tata Motors witnessed a 7% decline in domestic car sales in April 2025 to 70,963 units year-on-year. In 2024, the automaker's domestic car sales stood at 76,399 units.

The passenger vehicle sales, including the electric vehicle sales plunged in the domestic market by 6% in April this year.

According to the latest data by Tata Motors, the company sold 45,199 units of PVs and EVs in the domestic market in April 2025 compared with 47,883 units in the corresponding month last year.

Interestingly, the company's PV export surged by 233%  to 333 units in April 2025. 

However, Tata Motors' EV sales plunged by 16% in April 2025, including export and domestic markets.

The maker of Tiago and Nexon EVs sold 5,318 units of cars in April 2025 compared with 6,364 units in April 2024.

In the commercial vehicle category, domestic sales saw a 10% drop to 25,764 units in April 2025. 

In April 2024, the company sold 28,516 units of CVs in the domestic market.

Tata Motors exported 1,457 units of CVs in April 2025 versus 1,022 units in the same period last year--an increase of 43%.

Tata Motors EV sales witness 16% drop in April YoY, PVs sales down by 5%

Tata Motors witnessed a decline of 5.4% in auto sales between January and March 2025 Year-on-Year.

The company's domestic auto sales in the Jan-March quarter stood at 245,891 units in 2025 compared to 259,932 in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

Tata Motors sold 127,117 units of its compact segment cars, including Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, and UVC segment (Nexon and Punch) between January and March 2025 compared to 140,164 units in the same quarter in 2024.

The company sold a total of 10,355 units of Curvv in the same period in 2025.

However, the exports of Zest, Bolt, Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, Nexon, and Punch saw an increase of 24.5% year-on-year at 796 units in 2024 versus 639 units in January-March 2024.

The production also dropped, especially in the compact segment by 23.25% in January-March 2025 to 32,297 units.

On the other hand, Nexon and Punch's production declined from 1,00,118 units in 2024 to 95,663 units in January-March 2025.

Tata Motors' auto sales dip 5.4% in Q1 2025, exports rise 24.5%

Automaker giant Maruti Suzuki increased advertising expenditures in the third quarter (Q3) of fiscal year 2025 on account of the festive season discount. According to the Q3 earning call of the automaker, its sales promotion expenses were higher by 0.20 percent compared to Q2 FY 25.

Maruti Suzuki's Chief Investment Officer (CFO) Rahul Bharti said the higher advertisement expenses in Q3 were mainly due to the launch of new models such as the All-New Desire and campaigns around the E-Vitara. The ad and promotions affected MSI's operating margin by about 0.40 percent over Q2, he added.

Maruti Suzuki unveiled its first electric SUV, the Vitara at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The production of EVitara will begin soon with MSI aspires to be the largest manufacturer of EVs in India within the first year of start-up production.

In Q3 of the fiscal 2025, every one in three cars sold by the company in the domestic market was a CNG vehicle, Bharti said. According to the company's earning call, Maruti sold a total of 566,213 vehicles during the quarter. The sales volume in the domestic market was at 466,993 vehicles, a growth of 8.7 percent over the same period the previous year.

The company exported 99,220 vehicles, which is the highest ever in any quarter. The growth in export sales was about 38 percent. On the back of consumer sentiment during the festive season, coupled with increased sales promotion, the demand for cars improved in the third quarter, MSI said.

The net profit for the quarter was Rs 3,225 crore, an increase of 12.6 percent over Rs 3,130 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal. In the nine months, April to December, the company recorded its highest ever nine monthly sales volume, net sales, and net profit.

Maruti sold a total of 1,629,631 units during the period, a growth of 5 percent over the same period the previous year. Sales in the domestic market stood at 1,382,135 units and exports at 247,496 units.

The company registered net sales of about Rs 1,06,300 crore in this period as compared to about Rs 98,200 crore in the same period the previous year. The company made a net profit of about Rs 10,240 crore in 9-month FY 25 as against Rs 9,330 crore in the same period the previous year.

Maruti Suzuki's Q3 ad spend goes up, driven by new car model launches

Maruti Suzuki has increased the car prices across 18 car models. In a stock exchange filing, the automaker said it has planned to increase car prices due to a rise in input cost and operational expenses with effect from 1 February.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the ex-showroom prices for Celerio will increase upto Rs 32,500--the highest among all car models. For Jimny, the company has only hiked Rs 1,500 ex-showroom price from February 1.

The other Maruti Suzuki car models with their increased ex-showroom prices are- Alto K10 (upto Rs 19,500); S-Presso ( upto Rs 5,000); Wagon-R ( upto Rs 15,000); Swift ( upto Rs 5,000); Dzire ( upto Rs 10,000); Brezza (upto Rs 20,000); Ertiga (upto Rs 15,000); Eeco (upto Rs 12,000); Super Carry ( upto Rs 10,000); Ignis ( upto Rs 6,000); Baleno (upto Rs 9,000); Ciaz ( upto Rs 1,500); XL6 ( upto Rs 10,000); Fronx (upto Rs 5,500); Invicto (upto Rs 30,000), and Grand Vitara ( upto Rs 25,000), respectively.

"While the Company is committed to optimize costs and reduce the impact on the customers, we are constrained to pass on some of the increased expenses to the market," MSI said in a BSE filing.

Maruti Suzuki's mini (Alto, S-Presso) and compact segment ( Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, WagonR, Swift, Ignis) have witnessed a decline in sales in fiscal year 2025. The mini segment car sales declined by 10 percent to 89,642 units between April and December in fiscal year 2025. Last fiscal, the company had sold 99,634 units of its mini segment in the nine-month period.

In the case of the compact segment, MSI sold 5,48,648 units in 9-month FY 25 compared to 6,10,011 units in the corresponding quarters last fiscal.

The mid-size segment, which includes Ciaz, also saw poor demand in FY 25. Maruti Suzuki's mid-size segment car sales stood at 5,861 units in a month period compared to 8,903 units in 9-month FY 24.

Car price hike: Maruti Suzuki raises rates of 18 models, including Celerio, Jimny, Brezza

Maruti Suzuki's mini segment cars Alto and S-Presso have witnessed a 190 percent rise in sales in December 2024 year-on-year.

However, between April and December of fiscal year 2025, the mini segment sales stood at 89,642 units compared to 99,634 units in the same fiscal period.

According to the stock exchange filings, the automaker's mini car segment sales surged to 7,418 units in December 2024, up from 2,557 units in the same month last year.

The compact segment sales, which includes Baleno, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR, sales rose from 45,741 in December 2023 to 54,906 units (December 2024).

The total domestic sales of Maruti Suzuki increased by 24.4 percent to 132,523 units YoY. 

Whereas the total export sales saw a rise of 39 percent 37,419 units compared to 26,884 units.

Overall, MSI's total sales stood at 178,248 units in December 2024 from Rs 137,551 units in the corresponding month in 2023. 

So far, the company's total sales in the fiscal year 2025 stood at 1,629,631 units as against 1,551,292 between April-December FY 2024.

In the second quarter, the net profit of the company fell by 17.4 percent to Rs 3,069 crore year-on-year. According to the company, the fall in profit was due to the decline in demand for small cars, reduction in sales in urban regions, and deferred tax taken into account after the removal of indexation benefits on long-term capital gains of debt mutual funds.


The deferred tax in the second quarter of FY25 stood at Rs 1,017.7 crore. In the corresponding period of the previous financial year was just Rs 83 crore. 

Maruti Suzuki's Alto, S-Presso see 190% sales jump in December 2024

Hyundai Motor India Limited on Thursday announced that it will increase prices across its model range effective from January 1, 2025, due to a rise in input costs, adverse exchange rate, and increase in logistics costs.

According to the company, the price hike will be done across all MY25 models, such as Tuscon and i30 Sedan, up to Rs 25,000 from next year.

Last month, Mercedes-Benz India (MBI) announced a price hike of up to 3 percent for its entire model range, effective from January 2025.

Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, HMIL informed the stock exchanges, “At Hyundai Motor India Limited, our endeavor is always to absorb rising costs to the extent possible, ensuring minimal impact on our customers. However, with the sustained increase in input cost, it has now become imperative to pass on a part of this cost escalation through a minor price adjustment. This price increase will be done across models and the extent of the increase will be up to Rs 25,000. The price increase will be effective from January 1, 2025, on all MY25 models".

Notably, the Indian arm of the South Korean automaker witnessed a dip in its sales by 7 percent to 61,252 units in November, comprising 48,246 domestic sales and 13,006 exports. The automaker's standalone profit witnessed a 16.5 percent decline of Rs 1,337 crore in the second quarter of FY 25 compared to Rs 1,602 crore year-on-year basis.

The revenue from operation reduced from 18,409 crore to Rs 16,876 crore in Q2 FY 25.

The total income of the maker of Creta and Venue cars declined by 9.10 percent to Rs 17,078 crore in Q2 fiscal year 2025 from Rs 18,788 crore in the corresponding quarter in FY 24.

In the mid to long term, Hyundai has anticipated a sustained demand momentum in the auto industry. The company said it will continue to focus on the quality of growth by maintaining an optimum balance between volume, market share, and margins.

Hyundai Motor India's share price was up 0.19 percent to Rs 1,875.05 at 12 pm on Thursday.

Hyundai Motor India, which got listed on the Indian stock exchanges in October, revealed its second quarter (July and September) result on Tuesday. The automaker's standalone profit witnessed 16.5 percent decline of Rs 1,337 crore compared to Rs 1,602 crore year-on-year basis.

The revenue from operation reduced from 18,409 crore to Rs 16,876 crore in Q2 FY 25. 

The total income of the maker of Creta and Venue cars declined by 9.10 percent to Rs 17,078 crore in Q2 fiscal year 2025 from Rs 18,788 crore in the corresponding quarter in FY 24.

The company sold a total of 3,83,994 units of passenger vehicles during this period. This includes 2,99,094 units in the domestic market with a strong contribution from SUV segment. The export volume stood at 84,900 units.

<strong>'Hyundai India outlook'</strong>

"Despite the sluggish market conditions, we have successfully maintained profitability in H1 FY 2024-25, largely due to our proactive and continuous cost control measures. Further, we will be launching the CRETA EV for the mass market in the coming months and we expect it will be a game changer in the EV market," Unsoo Kim, Managing Director said.

Hyundai India's stock declined 1.46 percent to Rs 1,795.50 at 2:52 pm (IST) after the Q2 result. Hyundai Motor made a muted debut on the bourses last month as it got listed at Rs 1,931, down 1.5 percent.

Ola Electric founder Bhavish Aggarwal has emphasized on 'pricing basis' of the electric vehicles, and margin structure for deeper penetration.  Aggarwal underscored that the EV maker's prime focus is 'product', and then 'volume'. 

During the Quarter 2 earning call of the fiscal year 2025, Aggarwal said that brands are built by product, not by pricing.

"Brand is an outcome of product experience of the ownership experience and obviously at the scale at which you do it," he said.

Taking a dig at Ola Electric's peer, Aggarwal argued, "I actually feel these competitors, they're not going to be able to sustain these deep discounts as the industry scales up because they don't have the margin structure".

The entrepreneur added that the electric 2-wheeler maker has deeply invested in vertically integrated manufacturing and technology to sustain deep discounting.

"Technology enables better margins because it brings the cost down," he said.

According to the Q2 earning call of Ola Electric, the gross margin for the auto segment stood at 20.6 percent flat on a quarterly basis whereas year-on-year basis it was 12 points up.

The net loss narrowed in the second quarter as the company reported a 39 percent jump in sales. Ola Electric's net loss stood at Rs 495 crore in the September quarter compared to Rs 524 crore in the same period last year.  The revenue from operation jumped to Rs 1,214 crore in Q2.

The company is eyeing focus on expanding the store count.  Aggarwal said, " We have about 780 odd stores right now. And we are in the process of expanding the company-owned stores to about 2000 by March".

In September, Ola Electric launched its Network Partner Program under which third parties like multi-brand outlets, and other people who are already in the auto ecosystem from a retail perspective, could sell its product. 

Ola Electric has 1,000 such partners live with its products now, he added.

'Brand is built by product, not by pricing': Ola boss Bhavish Aggarwal

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. has received a crucial approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for its much-anticipated initial public offering (IPO). 

The IPO will see the South Korean auto giant offload up to 142,194,700 equity shares, each priced with a face value of Rs 10, in an offer for sale that could potentially raise around 25,000 crore (approximately $3 billion).

According to sources cited by CNBC-TV18, Hyundai India is eyeing a launch date in the first fortnight of October. If successful, this IPO would eclipse Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India's record-setting offering, which raised around $2.45 billion.

The entire IPO will be an offer for sale by Hyundai Motor Company, the automaker's promoter and primary shareholder. The 17.50% of equity shares on offer will significantly broaden the ownership base and is seen as a strategic move to enhance Hyundai Motor India's footprint in the competitive Indian market, while simultaneously creating value for shareholders.

With the SEBI nod in hand, the company is poised to further bolster its position as the second-largest player in India's passenger vehicle market, trailing only Maruti Suzuki.

Hyundai is expected to reveal more details about the IPO's pricing and schedule in the coming weeks, as anticipation continues to build around one of the country's largest IPOs to date.

Hyundai Motor India IPO: SEBI clears path for record-breaking public offering

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd announced that its overall auto sales for the month  of August 2024 stood at 76,755 vehicles, including exports.  

In the Utility Vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 43277 vehicles in the domestic market, a  growth  of  16%  and  overall,  44670  vehicles,  including  exports. The  domestic  sales  for  Commercial Vehicles stood at 21092.  
 
According to Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., “We sold a total  of 43,277 SUVs in August, a growth of 16% and 76,755 total vehicles. India’s  Independence Day holds a significant place for us at Mahindra and this year we celebrated  the day with the launch of the much-awaited THAR ROXX – ‘THE’ SUV.  With Thar ROXX,  we're setting our sights on making the Thar franchise the No. 1 SUV franchise (>12.5 Lakh segment) by volume within the next 3 to 5 years”.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said on May 16 it will invest Rs 12,000 crore in its electric vehicle (EV) unit, Mahindra Electric Automobile, over a period of three years up to March 31, 2027.

Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited, a subsidiary of M&M, has been incorporated on October 25, 2022 in India. Total Income of MEAL for the year ended March 31, 2024 was Rs 56.96 crores.

Net worth of MEAL as on March 31, 2024 stood at Rs 3,207.14 crore. The revenue from operations of MEAL for FY24 was nil.
