The merger of Air India and Vistara has been approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), reported ET.

The merger will mean that the Air India group becomes India’s largest international carrier, operating more flights internationally than any of its rivals.

Last year in September, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) had approved the merger between the two airlines.

As a result of the NCLT’s approval, the two airlines can now start combining their resources, assets and other networks.

Consulting companies like BCG, Sabre and Oliver Wyman are working on the integration synchronisation of the workforce and route networks.

ET reported that the merger process will be done gradually as neither airline plans to ground any flights in its process.

Around 7000 employees for Vistara are likely to transfer to Air India with new positions. The transfer is to take place in June, reported ET.
