BCCI is one of the world's richest cricket bodies, registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975.

The total income for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from one of the most sought-after marquee properties- the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw a significant 78% year-on-year growth in 2023 to reach Rs 11,769 crore.

This was primarily driven by new media rights deals, according to board's annual report. While income from media rights stood at Rs 8,744 crore- a 131% increase from the previous year, the Women's Premier League generated a surplus of Rs 377 crore surplus for BCCI.

Meanwhile, IPL generated an additional revenue of Rs 5,120 crore in 2023, marking a 116% increase from 2022.

Board's total expenditure on IPL also surged 66% to Rs 6,648 crore in the same period.

It is to be noted that Tata Sons had pipped the Aditya Birla Group to bag the IPL title sponsorship rights for Rs 2,500 crore until 2028. At present, Disney Star has the IPL TV rights till 2027 for Rs 23,575 crore and the digital rights sit with JioCinema for Rs 23,758 crore.

Overall, BCCI's income surged 50% to reach Rs 6,558 crore and expenditure increased 70% to Rs 2,831 crore.
