Sharad Kumar, who is a retired IPS officer, has been appointed as new chief of BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit. Kumar has previously headed the anti-terror organisation NIA (National Investigation Agency) as a Director General for a period of four years, i.e. from 2013-2017. His appointment as BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit chief will be effective for a period of three years.

Kumar, 68, will look into match fixing and betting scandals. He is an 1997 IPS officer from Haryana batch cadre and takes over from KK Mishra, also a former Haryana cadre IPS officer. Mishra, who was appointed last year, could not complete his tenure, as per reports.

As NIA's Director General, Kumar looked into various high profile investigations and operations. Post his tenure at NIA, Kumar was appointed as the Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission from June 2018 to April 2020, highlighted a media report. For an interim period, he also held the designation of Central Vigilance Commissioner.
