MIB calls for meeting of ad industry on Self-Declaration Certificates
The SC had issued a directive in its order on SDc on May 7, 2024. Following this, the MIB introduced a new feature on the Broadcast Seva Portal for TV and Radio Advertisements and on the Press Council of India’s portal for Print and Digital/Internet Advertisements.

Following the Supreme Court order that all advertisers/ advertising agencies must submit a ‘Self-Declaration Certificate’ (SDCs) before publishing or broadcasting any advertisement, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has called a meeting of media and ad industry bodies on June 11.

The meeting aims to discuss the issue of advertisers giving SDCs (from June 18) for broadcasting and publishing ads on TV, print, digital, and radio.

The SC had issued a directive in its order on SDc on May 7, 2024. Following which, the MIB introduced a new feature on the Broadcast Seva Portal for TV and Radio Advertisements and on the Press Council of India’s portal for Print and Digital/Internet Advertisements. The certificate, signed by an authorised representative of the advertiser/advertising agency, needs to be submitted through these portals.

According to an ET report, representatives of the Indian Newspaper Society, Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation, Indian Society of Advertisers (ISA), Advertising Standards Council of India, Internet and Mobile Association of India, Association of Radio Operators of India, Digital News Publishers of India (DNPA), CII, and FICCI will be attending the meeting, which will be held under the chairmanship of MIB Secretary Sanjay Jaju.

Earlier, Manisha Kapoor, CEO and Secretary General of Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), stated that given the vast number of creatives that now need certification, this is a challenge that advertisers, agencies and media owners will need to gear up for.
