Swiggy, India’s leading online food delivery platform, has launched a new initiative aimed at improving food hygiene and safety standards across its restaurant partners, according to reports.

Dubbed the ‘Swiggy Seal’ program, the initiative will enable restaurants to meet Swiggy’s stringent hygiene benchmarks, ensuring food safety and customer satisfaction.

Currently launched in Pune, the program is expected to expand to over 650 cities by November.

The Swiggy Seal program is driven by insights from over seven million verified customer reviews. It focuses on key areas such as contamination prevention, cooking practices, and packaging quality. Restaurants that successfully meet the platform’s hygiene standards will be awarded the Swiggy Seal badge, which will be prominently displayed on their menu pages, signalling to customers that these establishments adhere to superior food safety protocols.

To support restaurants in achieving and maintaining these high standards, Swiggy has partnered with FSSAI-accredited agencies. These agencies will offer discounted hygiene audits and essential services, such as pest control, to ensure ongoing cleanliness.

Furthermore, Swiggy will conduct educational webinars led by industry experts, providing restaurant partners with in-depth knowledge and training on food handling, contamination prevention, and best cooking practices.

In addition to rolling out the Seal, Swiggy will actively monitor and review the hygiene practices of restaurants holding the badge. Should concerns arise, the platform has stated that it will reassess the feedback and, if necessary, revoke the Swiggy Seal from any restaurant failing to maintain the required standards.

The announcement follows Swiggy's recent move to enhance convenience by offering quick-to-prepare meals from popular restaurants and quick-service restaurants (QSRs) within a 2 km radius of consumers. The focus will be on ready-to-serve items like burgers, beverages, and snacks, which require minimal preparation time, making the overall dining experience both safe and swift for customers.
