Mira Murati, Chief Technology Officer at OpenAI, announced her resignation from the pioneering artificial intelligence company.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Murati shared that her decision to leave was driven by a desire to "create time and space" for personal exploration after six-and-a-half years with the company.

Murati expressed her deep appreciation for OpenAI, describing her tenure as an "extraordinary privilege" and praising the company for being at the forefront of AI innovation. "It's hard to leave a company I will always cherish," she said, adding that her immediate focus is ensuring a smooth transition to maintain the momentum OpenAI has achieved.

The announcement of her departure follows news that two other key figures are also leaving the company.

Bob McGrew, Chief Research Officer, and Barret Zoph, another prominent leader in OpenAI's research department, are stepping down as well. These moves come at a time when the company is facing rapid growth and scaling its ambitions within the AI industry.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, responded to Murati's decision with gratitude, acknowledging the natural evolution of leadership in a fast-growing organization like OpenAI. He promised to announce transition plans in the near future. In her parting words, Murati emphasized her gratitude to the leadership team, specifically Altman and President Greg Brockman, and expressed her admiration for the colleagues she leaves behind.

"I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to build and work alongside this remarkable team. Together, we've pushed the boundaries of scientific understanding in our quest to improve human well-being," she shared.
